Foundation and Key Stage One Autistic Class

The Autistic class was established in September 2008 to support children with a diagnosis of autism. The class includes a class teacher and two learning assistants who have received a broad range of appropriate training including the TEAACH and Pecs Programmes.

All pupils are encouraged to develop independent skills and refocus is on each child’s individual needs. Each child has the opportunity to integrate with and learn alongside their peers in mainstream classes on a planned basis each week.

We recognise the important contribution parents make in supporting the education of children with autism. We work closely with parents sharing ideas and strategies and have developed a close partnership to maximise the support each child received with WELB and other outside agencies to provide a high quality service.
